The main purpose of the public association "Institute for the Development of the Crimean Tatar Language" is to identify and implement practical tasks for the study, preservation, promotion and development of the Crimean Tatar language as a social, structural, historical, regional and national-cultural phenomenon. Ensuring the development of the Crimean Tatar language is necessary to strengthen national identity, preserve national culture, traditions, customs, historical memory of the Crimean Tatar people and ensure its further functioning. In addition, ensuring the development of the language of one of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine is an essential condition for the ethno-cultural integrity of the modern Ukrainian nation and the linguistic wealth of Ukraine

THE MAIN ACTIVITIES

Research of the Crimean Tatar language and ensuring its functioning
● development of proposals for establishing standards of the Crimean Tatar language, in particular on spelling, terminology and transliteration of the Crimean Tatar language;formation of working groups to approve the final version of the spelling of the Crimean Tatar language in particular;
● organising the collection and processing of information in the Crimean Tatar language;
● engaging scholars, writers and a wide range of Crimean Tatar language speakers in projects to research and disseminate the Crimean Tatar language;
● organising the translation of foreign language materials and works into the Crimean Tatar language, and materials and works in the Crimean Tatar language into Ukrainian and English languages;
● organising the development of methodological materials for studying and improving the Crimean Tatar language: textbooks, video tutorials, dictionaries, phrasebooks of the Crimean Tatar language, etc.
Promoting the popularisation of the Crimean Tatar language
● promoting the institutionalisation of the development and enhancement of the prestige of the Crimean Tatar language;
● promoting the creation of a developmental language environment for persons who belong to the Crimean Tatar ethnic group for the purpose of free study and proficiency in the Crimean Tatar language, and creating a communication platform for linguists, writers, teachers and anyone who wants to learn the Crimean Tatar language, communicate in it, read etc;
● creating conditions for meeting the national-cultural, educational, informational and linguistic needs of Crimean Tatars living outside Ukraine, as well as its dissemination outside Ukraine;
● facilitating the organisation and holding of public events aimed at popularising the Crimean Tatar language among different age groups;
● organising cooperation with Ukrainian and international organisations in the development of the Crimean Tatar language.
Creation of a resource base for the preservation, study, and development of the Crimean Tatar language
● online: an electronic educational platform, an electronic library, an electronic archive, an electronic encyclopaedia, publishing and posting of e-books, audio and video materials;
● offline: organising the publication of literature in the Crimean Tatar language and translations of Crimean Tatar authors’ works into Ukrainian, English, etc., as well as periodicals; organising the development and publication of materials for learning the Crimean Tatar language such as textbooks, dictionaries, etc.

Therefore, it was essential for us that our visual style has a profound and authentic foundation, emphasizing the Crimean Tatar national identity and embodying the process of the development of the Crimean Tatar language: from its early formation through the history of the people into the future. We aim to acquaint you with this philosophy, encoded in our visual style.

The logo of our public union features a rectangular shape, symbolizing the universal form of information transmission, which has been in use since ancient times and continues to be relevant today. The inspiration for this choice comes from a significant historical monument in the realm of Turkic languages, the Kul Tigin steles, which are rectangular in shape and bear ancient Turkic runic inscriptions. These inscriptions were discovered along the Orhon River in modern-day Mongolia and are known as the Orhon inscriptions. They are considered the earliest written source of the Old Turkic language, which is the precursor of the modern Crimean Tatar language. The rectangular shape has traditionally been a common means of conveying written information throughout history, and today, it serves this role not only in the form of written pages and printed literature but also as the design of screens on electronic gadgets, which are primary tools for accessing information.
Additionally, in Islamic culture, to which the Crimean Tatars also belong, architectural elements of temples and educational institutions often feature rectangular shapes, such as the entrance portals in mosques, mihrabs, and minbars. These elements are adorned with Quranic quotations and serve an informative function, indicating the direction of prayer and the place from which sermons are delivered.
A similar architectural element, the entrance portal of Khan Uzbek's mosque in the city of Stary Krym, built in the 13th century, also served as inspiration for our association's distinctive style. The geometric pattern, which is an element of our branding, is a projection of the muqarna ornamented vault of the semi-dome above the entrance portal of the mosque. It's symbolic for us that near Khan Uzbek's mosque, there was Inji Hatun Madrasa - the oldest Turkic-language religious and educational institution in Crimea and Ukraine. Its operation made a significant contribution to the dissemination of religious and academic knowledge, not only in Crimea but also beyond its borders.

Mustafa Ametov | The Head of the public union

He graduated from Marmara University in Istanbul with a degree in journalism. He worked as a correspondent, editor, and host of the first Crimean Tatar radio "Meydan" as well as for the TV channel 'ATR.' For the past few years, he has been promoting the Crimean Tatar language. He writes articles and fiction published in Crimean Tatar newspapers and magazines.

Elvina Seitbullaieva | Operating officer

She graduated from Vernadsky University with a degree in Crimean Tatar Language and Literature and International Relations. Honoured Journalist of Ukraine. She worked as a correspondent for the Crimean Tatar editorial office of the State Television and Radio Company “Krym”, for the First Crimean Tatar TV channel ‘ATR’, and for Ukrainian TV channels such as Inter, Ukraine, and My-Ukraina. In 2018, she was a fixer of the film “The Distant Barking of Dogs”, which was shortlisted for the Oscars. She promotes the Crimean Tatar language and is involved in the creation of an online course of video lessons of the Crimean Tatar language and literature.

Sevilia Karaieva | Project manager

She has a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning but since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, she has been working with NGOs as a project manager. She worked as a coordinator for the departure of Ukrainian citizens from the temporarily occupied territories and humanitarian support for internally displaced persons in the team of the Coordination Centre for Humanitarian Affairs of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.
